Washing Trajectories

My now-elderly mother Alice, lives 4000 km away. Until recently, doing the washing was a ‘chore’ which mum enjoyed (I enjoy doing the washing too). Although we live on different sides of the continent, photographing the washing has gradually become an exploration of our relationship, our very different life trajectories and desires, through fabric, colour, and pattern.

Mum’s clothes. I don’t wear cream. Maybe the bluey-green, but probably not

Places I’ve travelled

“You’d only see this fabric on the kitchen table in my day”

Mum can’t understand why I don’t use pegs

Mum loves floral sheets. This old one has been put to good use
